Back in Norway, all our expedition's participants received the Norwegian South Pole medal (Sydpolsmedaljen), established by King Haakon to commemorate the journey. It is said that my expedition benefited from my careful preparation, good equipment, appropriate clothing, a clear goal, an understanding of dogs and their handling, and the effective use of skis. Also, in the future I won't be forgotten: In the jubilee year 2011, the Norwegian Government decided to proclaim it the "Nansen–Amundsen Year".
Did you contemplate the world through the eyes of Amundsen? Do you have now an idea of the real shape of Antarctica?
