10 July 1771, two years and eleven months after leaving England, “the Endeavour" entered the port of Dover. Approximately one month later, Captain Cook was promoted to the rank of a Commander. Unlike me, Captain Cook was a celebrity, even before his death in 1779.
Our Captain received a lot of honours in his afterlife; the "National Maritime Museum" and the "Captain Cook Memorial Museum" honour our Captain as a great explorer, for his geographical and scientific knowledge, his three expeditions, and his cultural and artistic legacies – but too often, the colonial injustices are forgotten. Unfortunately, the whole world remembers Captain Cook, but the crew on the ship and of course my great contribution are completely forgotten.
Did you contemplate the world through the eyes of Jack the Sailor? Did you get all the different viewpoints of the world?
